Having space helps me to notice things and reflect on them and then put that into writing (happy face!).
It has finally cooled down enough to be outside during the day in Las Vegas. I popped outside to feed our tortoise and trim some suckers off of our citrus trees.
I’ve noticed the suckers for several weeks but just didn’t seem to find the minimal effort it would take to remember and do it at the same time. I’m pretty sure most of us can relate to that.
Well, as I’m snipping them off, I realize some are MUCH bigger and longer than I thought they were (they kind of hide as they creep up and join the rest of the foliage).
I get a little sad because I know that the tree just put a TON of energy into growing that low sucker. Energy that could have gone to the upper part of the tree that I DO want to grow. Had I snipped it young, that energy would have gone to strengthening the roots, growing taller, or growing more and longer branches.
This reminds me that when we keep doing things we don’t want to do, tolerate things we don’t need to tolerate, put energy into people, places, emotional states we don’t find joy in we end up taking away from the growth of all those things that are bringing us joy, teaching us, nourishing us and moving us forward to be fruitful and stand tall and strong.
Thank you, Mother Nature for that profound reminder.
Now I reflect on what I’ve been giving energy to that needs to be snipped off so that some other part of my life can grow stronger.
Has this sparked some thoughts for you? Small or big, it can make a HUGE difference in your future.
